CPC is leading a major efficiency drive for London Underground

CPC is leading a major efficiency drive for London Underground to realise savings of over £130m. The approach and methodology was pioneered by Steve Mole, CPC Managing Director, and Dean Benson, Director of Transport and Infrastructure.

This is the first time in over ten years that a holistic review of programme efficiencies has been undertaken. The CPC team has integrated with the LU stations improvement team to undertake a four-phase process of efficiency identification, realisation and embedding of best practice.

The approach does not look to realise any savings through de-scoping and is not aimed at re- writing perfectly good process and procedures. The team has worked with London Underground to identify the key areas of concern, of which four main categories were identified, and develop integrated improvements which include more efficient scoping; better application of design; improved procurement packaging and optimised team management.

This approach has exceeded all targets to date and we are currently looking at savings of over 20%. Almost £100m of savings have been ‘banked’ already. CPC led this commission to ensure the benefits identified by the integrated team are long lasting; the approaches, briefings and training all lead to embedding best practice into the LU team.
