Haydon Wick Flood Scheme opened1 November 2013
The Haydon Wick Flood Alleviation Scheme was officially opened by Justin Tomlinson MP on 1 November 2013.
The scheme will protect more than 118 residential homes and an electricity sub station against a 1% annual probability of a flood event.
CPC has project managed the scheme on behalf of the Environment Agency since May 2012, creating over 2km of new flood walls and embankments around Haydon Wick Brook in Swindon.
More than 200 trees have been planted with 4000 native shrubs and 10,000 herbaceous and wetland plants to replace vegetation and enhance the local area.
Steve Lee, CPC's Head of Environment said "This was an extremely challenging project to deliver. Access to the brook was constrained by its close proximity to housing, and we had to effectively thread a heavily engineered flood defence through the middle of a residential estate. It's not often that people see this type of engineering on their doorstep and we are delighted to have managed this project to its successful completion".
