Strategic Planning for Provision of Supported Housing
Client: Reading Borough Council
Project Overview
Reading Borough Council is responsible for meeting the support needs of approximately 150 disabled children and their families. The Directorate for Education and Children’s Services engaged CPC to address three core questions:
1. Who are the young people we need to support?
2. How do they and their parents and carers assess their likely future needs and moves towards supported independence?
3. How can we best meet those needs locally, sensitively and efficiently?
Following the completion of the project, clients’ benefits include:
- RBC have a detailed understanding of the future support needs of children and young people with disabilities within the Council’s catchment area.
- Ł760k p.a. savings achieved from reducing the Council’s dependency on ‘out of area’ care
- Introduced tool to significantly improve ability to forecast future support needs of children and young people with disabilities
- Successful consultation exercises helped strengthen Council-stakeholder relations
Acting as both project managers and subject-matter advisors, CPC have been engaged to:
- Develop and deliver proposals for meeting the needs of young people with disabilities wishing to live as independently as possible in Reading
- Review and develop an appropriate needs assessment tools against which future needs of young people can be planned in supported and adapted local accommodation.
- Develop a flow chart to map all of the consultation and other processes involved from transitions at 14 and at 17 towards independence; and continuing involvement in education, training and other related needs.
- Engage with stakeholders to design a marketing strategy for parents and carers, and of course for young people themselves
