Health

“We need to set the service free to deliver high-quality care, based on evidence of what works. Accountable for results. Answerable to informed and engaged patients. Focused on what matters to patients – safe, reliable, effective care. The best care for each patient. The best outcomes for all patients."
Rt Hon Andrew Lansley CBE MP, Secretary of State for Health

The Government’s policies on health are still evolving and currently subject to a 'pause' (as announced by the Secretary of State on 4 April 2011) following publication of the Public Health White Paper last autumn. However, the proposed direction of travel signals radical reforms to deliver better patient choice and increased decision making by Clinicians.

At the core of the Government proposals is a major restructure of health and social care, plus a renewed focus on public health in the Department of Health and Local Authorities. CPC is well placed to help you respond.

Throughout the proposals the public purse will be squeezed harder than first imagined and the efficiencies needed are compounded by an increasing demand for health and social care by a population getting sicker younger but living longer. This relies more and more upon intensive medical care, increasing technology and drug costs combined with higher expectations of the results. The prevention and early intervention agenda is therefore more in the spotlight than ever as alongside efficiencies runs the demand for evidence based intervention.

The old way of reacting to a demand for efficiencies by outsourcing and sharing services, trimming budgets and departments and, in particular, cutting prevention initiatives that will not deliver in the short term but are future orientated will not be enough. The scale of changes required will mean thinking in very new ways about service integration, organisational mergers, collaboration between sectors (especially between private and public sectors) and development of new organisational forms such as social enterprises to determine how the Health sector meets these demands.

CPC has an extensive track record in helping health and social care face these challenges and look creatively across boundaries to find innovative new ways of working.
