Health and Wellbeing
The current drive to invest in prevention and well-being services can place significant pressures on existing service budgets. It is frequently perceived that new monies must be made available to support this approach; however, in practice there often is already substantial funding from across a range of partners, with no central co-ordination or picture of what this market looks like. This can lead to:
- over-provision of certain types of support,
- poor outcomes for users,
- service gaps, and
- duplication.
We have found that definitions of ‘prevention’ and ‘well-being’ are often likely to mean different things to different agencies, especially across health and social care. Development of a clear and shared definition of ‘prevention’ and ‘wellbeing’ will ensure that any assessment of provision will be accurate and consistent as can be seen below.
CPC can help you develop a framework within which you can assess the current provision that supports health and wellbeing and if you require further support we can undertake the audit on your behalf.
This work can also be linked to an area based Asset Based Assessment which will look at the inherent assets and support that exist within both organisations and communities, which may enhance and complement the public sector’s offering – the audit gives you a clear picture of what you are spending where (and why) and the asset assessment will identify potential gaps and identify what works and is valued locally: put together these form a powerful case for change in the way investment is made and communities are able to support themselves, taking the strain off the public purse.
